Hurricane Protection University


Hurricane Protection University has arrived! Our first stop Ft Meyers, FL, on Wednesday, August 8 with a well attended session featuring Darius Grimes, CRC, CSI, CDT, CWMS – Wind Mitigation Directory for Skyetec Environmental Services and Board of Director for the IHPA. The topic: “The Impact of Legislation on the Hurricane Protection Industry,” which covered new legislation, new labeling requirements as well as cost vs. value. The seminar also covered the My Safe Florida Home Program.

The educational day started with an International Hurricane Protection Association’s (IHPA) General Meeting in which guest speaker Tami Torres, Special Programs Administrator for the My Safe Florida Home Program detailed her program to attendees. The day concluded with a Hurricane Protection University Networking Reception in which attendees had an opportunity to unwind while visiting a number of tabletop displays.

The IHPA along with Hurricane Protection magazine developed Hurricane Protection University, a complete educational program for the hurricane protection professional.

The mission of the university:
Hurricane Protection University is dedicated to the promotion of long-term industry growth and success through the participation of its members – the hurricane industry professional – in establishing a higher level of education to qualify and increase the value of the industry professional within the area of hurricane protection to the consumer.

Hurricane Protection University will offer a wide variety of seminar courses which will be CEU accredited by the Florida Department of Business Regulations and the American Institute of Architects. The seminar speakers will be qualified members of the IHPA. Some of the courses which will be offered: Business Management, Marketing Strategies Plans and Budgets, Certified Sales and Installation Program for Impact Protective Coverings, Product Safety and Liability, Product Testing, Product Approvals, and Risk Management.
