IHPA GROWING IN NUMBERS, INFLUENCE
More industry professionals are seeking the benefits of IHPA
membership and industry representation. Benefits include industry
updates regarding all matters that affect the hurricane protection and
storm mitigation business including representation at code hearings,
building code updates, industry contacts, regular meetings, conferences
and more.
In the last year, IHPA membership has grown from
just more than 100 members to 153 members and growing rapidly.
The IHPA is dedicated to being the industry leader
on all issues that affect the hurricane protection industry by unifying
the suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, engineers, architects, code
writers and government officials. Its mission is to provide quality
hurricane protection systems, information and education to ensure the
public’s welfare and safety.
GRIMES NAMED TO IHPA BOARD
The IHPA board of directors welcomes Darius H. Grimes CRC, CSI, CDT, as
its newest member.
Grimes’ experience combines a diverse 25-plus year
career in manufacturing, distribution and construction with a talent
for complex design and innovative solutions. His many contributions to
the construction industry are based on a well-developed consultative
approach reflecting years of hands-on experience, engineering
understanding and development of installation techniques earning him
national industry recognition.
Grimes currently is Test Engineer with Wayne-Dalton
Corp., Research and Development, where he joins a team of engineers
working to develop innovative hurricane protection solutions.
Grimes’ professional certification includes:
• Florida Certified Residential Contractor—BPFS
training
• Certified Windstorm Mitigation Surveyor—ARA
• Certified Construction Documents Technologist.
He has been an active participant in industry
organizations and include:
• President—Pensacola CSI Chapter
• Charter Member of the FLASH TAC
• Co-Chair FLASH Partnership Committee
• Escambia County Windstorm Damage/Energy Advisory
Committee
• Associate Member of the NW Florida BOAF
• Member—Project Ranking Committee Escambia County LMS
• ICC—Corporate Member
• Continuing Education Instructor.
Grimes replaces departing board member Mike Madden,
Madden Mfg. Madden was a charter member of the IHPA board (see HP,
Winter 2002, page 14, and Winter 2005, page 31). The IHPA and its
members wish Madden continued success in all his future endeavors.
FOURTH ANNUAL GOLF OUTING SET
The Fourth Annual International Hurricane Protection Association Golf
Tournament will be held May 18, 2006, in conjunction with the World of
Hurricane Protection Trade Show & Conference.
The tournament will be held at the Shingle Creek
Golf Club at 9939 Universal Blvd., Orlando, FL. The tournament format
is four-person scramble, but singles and partial groups are welcome.
IHPA organizers at the tournament will match you up with a group. The
shotgun tee-off will be at 12:30 p.m. Registration opens at 11 a.m. A
boxed lunch will be available at your golf cart.
Shingle Creek Golf Club is a championship course and
features all the first class amenities one would expect including:
• 7,250 yard/18 hole championship layout
• GPS yardage system
• Complimentary valet parking
• Club and shoe rental
• State-of-the-art practice facility
• Transportation for Rosen Plaza Hotel guests (you
must pre-register at the hotel).
Shingle Creek is a David Hardman-designed course
that features undulating fairways and interconnected waterways.
