Hurd impact widows and doors have a DP rating at Dade County Approval Level or better. Hurd’s impact products meet impact testing specification requirements in all states that currently have regulations related to impact products.

In addition, all Hurd windows and patio doors are certified by the American Architectural Manufacturing Association (AAMA).

Featuring tough, reinforced construction, Hurd impact glass is laminated to look just like ordinary glass, yet offers additional safety and security needed to guard against hazardous storms, especially in coastal shoreline areas. Wind and other elements are kept outside the home, helping to preserve the building envelope.

Hurd impact glass widows and patio doors offer several features to meet the specialized needs of custom homebuilders and owners:

• Security—impact glass protects coastal homes all year round. Stainless steel mechanisms resist corrosion and reinforced construction includes advanced locking systems. Casement units have a piano roton hinge that runs from the top to bottom for strength and durability,

• Safety
—With DP ratings at Dade County Approval level or better, the high-strength laminated glass helps homes withstand the high winds and flying debris encountered during storms.

• Style—Styles run the gamut from casement, picture and sash and frame windows to outswing patio doors and direct sets. Custom shapes include half-round, springline, arch head, quarter-round, elliptical, trapezoid and triangle. Six standard colors include white, sand, bronze, green, eggshell and brick red. Pine construction is offered on frames and sashes.

In addition, high impact glass helps prevent damage and fading to furnishings, draperies and floor coverings, and keeps homes quieter by cutting out more exterior noise than conventional glass.

Hurd continually monitors the upcoming codes and regulations throughout the United Stats to ensure that all windows and patio doors continue to meet the latest codes and regulations.

StormBreaker Plus products feature KeepSafe® Maximum glass. Units are composed of a piece of heavy polyvinyl butyral (PVB) plastic interlayer sandwiched between two pieces of double-strength glass. The laminated glass is then combined with another piece of double-strength tempered glass to form an insulating glass (IG) unit. The IG unit, which has been sealed together to form a strong, impact-resistant bond, is then glazed into the sash to hold the glass in the frame. The glazing process uses a structural back bedding system to ensure the entire unit passes impact tests and performs admirably in installed situations.
