MADDEN MFG., Pompano Beach, FL, has introduced a new ultra-light series of its popular Safety Edge storm panels. The new series is considered to be the lightest and least expensive storm panels available today in the industry. The patented Safety Edge feature provides a smooth finished edge. This significantly reduces the risk of liability issues for builders and contractors when homeowners handle shutters at a later date. In addition, it’s extremely lightweight so anyone can easily hang them. The embossed aluminum line weighs only eight ounces per foot.

BUILDEX,
Itasca, IL, announces its recently launched Tapcon XL has been approved by both Miami-Dade County (NOA 02-311.03) and SBCCI (Evaluation report 9759A). Tapcon XL is a new masonry anchor system designed to meet the unique challenges of storm protection along our coastal regions as well as heavy-duty masonry anchoring requiring high pullout values. Tapcon XL delivers all the benefits you have come to expect with the original Tapcon products with the added bonus of twice the holding power in poured concrete and hollow block. The hefty 5/16-inch anchor is available in 2 1/4- and 2 3/4-inch lengths to stand up to the arduous wind loads imposed on high-rise buildings during a hurricane. A high button head with a Torx‚ T-40 drive delivers stability during installation but conveniently avoids interference with the tracks of most of the high-rise accordion shutter extrusions. The new Tapcon XL also replaces sleeve anchors in many standard applications at a fraction of the cost.
