Door is Opening

There are few times in any
business marketplace when a number of industry-wide developments occur
at the same time, all coming together from different forces and different
directions. I believe this is happening right now in the hurricane
protection industry. The door to great opportunity is opening, and
the future looks very bright.
• Item: Within the last year a few very dedicated individuals,
led by Frank Storms, joined to create the International Hurricane
Protection Association (IHPA). The IHPA represents the business and
professional interests of all the different elements involved in providing
goods and services offering critical protection against hurricanes—protection
for our homes, workplaces and virtually every inhabited structure
in the coastal areas of the United States and neighboring international
regions.
• Item: Within this same timeframe, legislation was enacted
that specified new building codes mandating the installation of hurricane
protection on new construction for much of the coastal regions of
Florida. This action not only will facilitate a great change in the
vulnerability of these regions to the devastating impact of hurricanes,
but it also will represent a huge business opportunity for hurricane
protection professionals who are best prepared to fulfill the needs
of millions of customers. This legislation is sure to be the precursor
of similar, much needed actions by all the other coastal regions of
our country subject to these powerful storms.
• Item: At the same time, we had the opportunity to become
involved in the hurricane protection industry by creating a communication
forum, Hurricane Protection magazine, to help inform, inspire and
instruct industry professionals about how this industry is growing,
creating and developing with the people who are leading the way. Additionally,
we established The World of Hurricane Protection Trade Show and Conference,
which will be the meeting place for all participants in this industry
to exchange product and educational information and to further the
development of successful individuals and their businesses.
These various elements are coming together right now, and the door
of opportunity is opening for all industry members to participate
in what will be the certain growth and positive business results for
professionals of the hurricane protection industry.
Manufacturers are leading the way with innovative products; the IHPA
will provide the guidance and leadership for industry professionalism
and success; and Hurricane Protection magazine and the World of Hurricane
Protection Trade Show Conference will be the forums to exchange information
and ideas critical to success and progress.
